Our Assumptions About Faith

The Center is a faith-based organization.  So we start out with the assumption that faith/spirit/religion is foundational to everything that we do.  We seek to be interfaith, drawing from the wisdom and practices of all religious traditions.

At The Center, we talk about spirit power as a primary resource for creating the deep social change needed to eliminate health inequities. We believe that faith/spirit/”a Source” is a healing, transformational presence in our world. Any effort to create Loving Community finds its power in this presence and in the way we live out the wisdom and truth we find there.

We also talk about moral imagination.  This is the idea that our religious traditions give us an inspired vision for what our world can be like.  Part of our practice must be staying connected to this vision, which is often at odds with the dominant culture.

People of faith of all traditions talk about and experience spirit power and moral imagination in different ways. We are enriched and our movement for loving, healthy communities is strengthened when we are in dialogue with each other.

Do you have ideas you’d like to share about faith/spirit and how they help us transform the health of our communities? Click here to post your reflections.
